Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and having explored various countries around the world before moving her base to England in 2016, Asuka Maciusowicz has always been keen to explore crossing of culture and to enjoy life through beautiful creation. She combines her appreciation for calmness and delicacy, values that come from her Japanese heritage, with exposure to western sensibilities. She creates her own contemporary style by drawing from both those worlds, which brings elegant and clean forms to her pieces.

Her ceramics journey started when she came to London to study art and design after a career switch, following an intense period of working in a different field. Having an interest in interior design, she aimed to and believed in creating relationships with things which are beautiful and well thought through and which bring joy to everyday life.

Through the study of product design at Central Saint Martins, she unexpectedly fell in love with ceramics. The material is intriguing, she associates it both with calmness and complex dynamic. She uses porcelain in making her pieces to give a fine texture and beautiful brighter colour in glaze. Porcelain is considered a luxury material, but it is durable and can be used over a long time.
